A good tadka is all it needs and it goes perfectly with roti, naan, or jeera rice. Whole Masoor Dal is also popularly known as Brown Lentils or Sabut Masoor ki Dal. These are basically whole red lentils which are popular all over the world. We make this Whole Masoor Dal very often for dinner.
Steps to make Whole masoor dal:
- Wash and soak dal for an hour
- In a mixer grinder add 1 roughly chopped onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, then add cumin seed, turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder, black pepper, cardamom, cloves add water and grind it into paste. Add paste with the dal mix well add tspn of oil cover the cooker lid, cook in a low flame till 4-5 whistle
- For tadka: in a pan add oil let it heat then add cumin seeds, asafoetida let it splutter then add finely chopped onions let it fry till golden brown
- When dal is cooked add salt, water as required give a boil then add chopped coriander leaves mix well then add the tadka mix well cook till boil then it's ready to serve.
It goes perfectly with rice, naan or roti/paratha. Whole masoor dal is a lentil which is light brown in color from outside, and orange in color from inside (split masoor). Sabut masoor ki dal is usually made as a slightly thick curry. Some people also prefer to mash the dal to make its consistency thicker.
