Instructions to make South Indian Filter Coffee:
  1. The utensil to make South Indian filter coffee looks like this. It has four different parts. First part is at the bottom where coffee is collected, the other part has some holes which stays on top of the bottom part, third is a plunger and forth is the lid.
  2. To make filter coffee, first of all boil one cup of water. Now put the part with holes on top of the part which collects coffee. Add coffee powder to it. If you don't want it too dark then add less coffee powder. Now push it with the plunger. Add boiling water on top and cover it with the lid. Leave it aside for an hour.
  3. After 1 hour the coffee water will be collected in the bottom part. Now boil some milk in a pot.
  4. Add sugar to a cup and add filter coffee to it. Now add hot milk to it and take this coffee in one steel glass. Now pour it from top to another glass. Repeat until foam is created but make sure it does not get cold. There is a special kind of utensil to serve filter coffee which is available at any shop selling utensils. Otherwise it can be even served in any cup or mug. This prepared coffee water can make 2 to 3 cups of coffee.
  5. Serve hot filter coffee with some South Indian snacks.

South Indian coffee is milky and is served hot in a traditional tumbler and davara (see pic below). I love coffee very much - by coffee I mean filter coffee. I do not like these instant coffee varieties and never drink it. This is a small wonder, never thought making south indian filter coffee was so easy.
