To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook tehri using 24 ingredients and 16 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Tehri:
- Make ready 2 cups long grain basmati rice,washed and soaked for an hour
- Make ready 1/2 cup boiled peas
- Get 1/2 cup carrots chopped finely
- Prepare 1 medium sized potato
- Make ready 1/2 cup cabbage boiled
- Take 1/2 cup small paneer cubes,
- Make ready 3 tbsp mustard oil (or desi ghee)
- Prepare Pinch zeera
- Take As requried Whole Garam Masala
- Get 2 Bari Elaichi
- Get 4-5 laung
- Take 6-7 Black pepper powder
- Get 2 Bay leaves
- Make ready 3-4 pc dalchini
- Make ready 4-5 choti Elaichi
- Make ready 1 tsp garlic paste
- Prepare 1/2 tsp ginger paste
- Make ready 2 tbsp onion paste
- Prepare 1 tsp fresh tomato puree
- Take 1/2 tsp haldi powder
- Make ready 1 tsp red chilli powder
- Prepare 1 tsp dhania powder
- Take 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- Get to taste Salt
This modern-day version has deliciously soft sweet vegetables and flavorful long-grain rice. Serve with chilled yogurt and spicy curry on the side. Followed the recipe but did half of it and also added some mushrooms The end result lacked any depth of flavour. It was pleasant but there was something missing.
Instructions to make Tehri:
- Strain the rice and keep it aside.
- Take a pan, add 1 tbsp oil, heat it, add veggies, stir fry them till light brown, keep aside.
- Take a big pressure cooker, add oil or ghee, heat it.
- Add whole garam masala, saute it for a while.
- Add ginger garlic paste, add little water and saute it for a while.
- Now add onion paste, again add lil water, stir fry it for a while.
- Lower the flame now, cover it with the lid, cook it until brown. Stir in between.
- Open the lid now, add tomato puree & salt, mix it well, cook it and cover it with the lid, till oil separates.
- Now add haldi, dhania & red chilli powder, add little water, increase the flame, stir fry it till oil separates.
- Now add garam masala powder, give a stir.
- Add veggies & rice, stir fry it for a while.
- Now add water accordingly so as to keep the dish dry, stir it.
- Increase the flame and pressure cook it for 4 whistles.
- Turn off the flame, open the lid and let it cool for 5-7 minutes of cooling.
- Take out in a serving dish, garnish it with chopped dhania patta.
- Have it with ghee.
I served it with a paneer and cashew nut curry and when mixed with the other sauce it was better. Tehri is a city and a municipal board in Tehri Garhwal District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the administrative seat of Tehri Garhwal District. Veg tehri is a medley of mixed veggies, rice and spices from the Awadhi cuisine. The method of making tahiri or taheri looks like making a pulao, but the dum cooking technique makes the difference. the taste of taheri is also not like a Veg pulao.
